Cathedral - 1971 (34mins) - Cleaned and restored (22-04-2016)

After the film 2001 A Space Odyssey in 1968 the world suddenly changed for me and I found a new art form to play with. It encompassed everything that I was interested in, the universe, the mysteries, and the marriage of technology with the soul. I was an art student at Falmouth School of Art and couldn't see any difference between painting and film making. The poet Peter Redgrove inspired me to make the most of what was offered and so I submitted a simple budget to make my own movie. They kindly agreed to it and I embarked on my version of 2001, the inner version (very much cheaper)

Cathedral II - 1996 (32mins)

Continueing from the first film I tried to update the ideas kick started by the advent of DV camcorders (a big step from the primitive VHS). The blend of imagery is intended to disjoint in some places as an attempt to create feelings and emotions without knowing why.

Cathedral III - 1999 (28mins)

A man sees the real world as he approaches death. Ordinary life is revitalized with new meanings as the mask of society disappears. Sometimes we never give a thought to these feelings until the last moment arrives. I used a section from T.S.Eliots 'Little Gidding' from the Four Quartets as it summed up a lot of what I am trying to do.
I decided to try and experiment using continuous music auto generated by the software Koan Pro. This gave me a base line to start the building of ideas as the music interacts with the images.
